What is Counselling?

Counselling is a collaborative process involving a trained professional and a client. It often occurs 1:1, or can be facilitated in a group space - that is where things like couples counselling or family therapy comes in!

Counselling involves regular sessions in which the client is able to explore their thoughts and feelings in a confidential and safe space. A strong therapeutic relationship is key to ensuring the work is successful.

The counsellor's role is not to give advice, but to help explore anything the client feels may be holding them back.

Counselling can be long-term or short-term. Longer term work allows more complex issues, or a variety of challenges to be worked through. Whereas shorter term work is helpful for only one issue and usually comprises of 8 sessions or less.

In our fast-paced world, stress, anxiety, and feelings of depression can be normal. While it's common to face some of these issues, there may come a point where your feelings are getting in the way of your daily life. This is where counselling comes in.

Why counselling?

Counselling can provide you with:

  1. Professional insight: You'll work with counsellors who help you navigate complex emotions, offering fresh perspectives you may not have considered.

  2. A chance to be heard: You have a safe, non-judgmental space to share your experiences. Your story matters, and we are here to listen.

  3. Support and empathy: You don't have to face life's difficulties alone. Everyone has a story and we are here to listen.

  4. Help in your journey of self-discovery: Together with your counsellor you may explore your values and set meaningful goals aligning with who you want to be.

  5. Enhanced relationships: In counselling you may develop better communication skills that can help you foster healthier relationships with others

  6. Practical techniques to cope: You'll learn and practice new techniques to help you manage stress and navigate emotional challenges with greater confidence.

Remember, seeking help isn't a sign of weakness – it's a courageous step towards a healthier, happier you.

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it." - Mandela
