Hi, I'm Alice and I am an integrative counsellor providing talking therapy.
I offer a warm, relational space to come and talk things through when life feels overwhelming, depressing or stuck. It may be that you are struggling with grief, with family relationships or with patterns that you don't know how to break. You might have a clinical diagnosis and be figuring out how to live with neurodiversity, complex emotional needs or PTSD.
Whatever it is that brings you to counselling, you are so welcome here.
Where I work
I work in person with clients coming from Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, primarily Ross-On-Wye, Mitcheldean and Cinderford.
I also work with clients online from around the world.
What to expect from counselling?
Counselling is a unique experience for each person who tries it because no two counselling relationships are ever the same. However, a through-line with nearly every one of my clients is that it is a relief to be able to share themselves without filter and without feeling judged and have space to think about their lives and their choices and their way forward.
There is profound self-discovery in counselling; finding out that so many of the ways we respond and the decisions we make, are rooted in patterns that formed earlier on in life.
When we begin to understand ourselves, we begin to be able to have compassion on ourselves and on others. This brings so much freedom and strengthening of the core of our sense of identity.
Why choose me?
It's not easy to know which therapist to approach. I offer a free 15 minute ‘get to know you’ session to help you make the decision and whether it's me or another person you feel drawn to work with, go with that inkling.
How do I work?
I incorporate concepts from the three main psychotherapeutic approaches of Person Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I love to lean into the imagination, metaphor and the symbolic- I understand these as the language of the heart. I also find that somatic therapy, attuning to the understanding the body holds, takes us deeper. We are each filled with resources that help towards healing, and so it is about finding out together how to draw towards that creative flow.
Qualifications
I have a first class integrative Masters degree in Counselling and am an accredited member of the NCPS (National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society) and abide by its ethical guidelines. I also hold a Masters from the University of Cambridge. I am committed to ongoing professional development and undertake courses frequently to widen and deepen my professional insight and range. These include for example: working somatically, working with anger, creative therapies and working with spiritual abuse.
Can't afford counselling?
I offer a limited number of concessionary rates for people who can only afford a reduced fee. These are in high demand and new spaces are occasional.
I have seen that counselling can be the catalyst of yearned-for change and am passionate about access to affordable counselling for those on low incomes. Most counties have some access to affordable counselling through charities. Having worked for several years at www.listeningpost.org.uk in Gloucestershire, I can commend their work which is a pay what you can afford model.
